Stewart Dickson MLA said: “The callous and brutal attack will have left many in the area shocked and saddened and must be condemned by all.
“There is no place in our society for this type of thuggish behaviour and as a community we must unite in standing against those determined to bring fresh hate onto our streets.
“PSNI officers are still trying to establish the facts around this attack and I would urge anyone that has the power to aid them in this to do so. This scourge on our society must be stopped.”
