Mr Dickson was speaking after eight shots were fired at a police car in Rossnareen Avenue around 6.50pm today (Thursday). Two officers who were in the car were not injured but were said to have been badly shaken.
“I utterly condemn this attack, which is rightly being treated as attempted murder,” said Mr Dickson.
“Those who carried out this attack showed no regard for the police officers involved, nor any local residents. To do this in a busy residential area at a time when it could conceivably be quite busy is doubly sickening. No-one was injured, which we can all be thankful for.
“I would urge anyone with information on this to give it to the PSNI immediately.”
