Stewart Dickson MLA said: “I would appeal for calm on all sides ahead of the 12thJuly parades. We have already seen a number of parades pass off without incident this summer and I would encourage all groups to ensure that Saturday’s marches and protests also take place peacefully. All sides must look to uphold the rule of law and show respect for the Police.
“The violence that we have witnessed in recent years is completely avoidable. I do not want to see more young people receive criminal records.
“All sides must respect the determinations of the Parades Commission as lawful decisions. I do not want images of public disorder in Northern Ireland to be seen around the world after the success of events such as the Giro d’Italia and the G8 which were a real boost to our international reputation.”
