Cochrane welcomes planning approval for Bombardier energy plant

Alliance East Belfast MLA Judith Cochrane has welcomed the granting of planning approval for an energy plant to power the Bombardier site in East Belfast. The energy from waste gasification plant will convert 120,000 tonnes of commercial and industrial waste into electricity each year. 130 construction jobs will be created to build the energy plant.

Judith Cochrane MLA said: “This energy plant will play an important role in sustaining the long term future of Bombardier’s East Belfast site. By reducing their energy costs, Bombardier will be more internationally competitive, which I hope will result in more contracts being sent to Belfast.

“I am also pleased that it will create 130 temporary construction jobs to help a sector that has had a difficult few years.”
