Cochrane welcomes launch of Leukaemia and Lymphoma NI

Alliance East Belfast MLA, Judith Cochrane, has welcomed the launch of Leukaemia and Lymphoma NI at Stormont on Wednesday. It is the new name for the Northern Ireland Leukaemia Research Fund that has supported research into these cancers for 50 years. Judith is the Secretary of the Assembly Group on Cancer. Judith Cochrane MLA said: “I welcome the launch of Leukaemia and Lymphoma NI. They are doing invaluable research work through their link with Queen’s University to find treatments for these cancers.

“There are still so many types of cancer that we do not know enough about. We all know someone who is fighting cancer right now or who has sadly lost their life as a result of cancer, so I would encourage everybody to do what they can to support the work of this charity.

“We must ensure that they continue their vital research to increase our understanding of these cancers to deliver better treatments and patient care. I recently visited the Centre for Cancer Research and Cell Biology at QUB to see first-hand the outstanding work that these scientists are carrying out and how their research allows consultants to target the best treatment for each individual patient.”
