Cochrane welcomes cancer drug being made available here

Alliance East Belfast MLA Judith Cochrane has welcomed the decision to make the prostate cancer drug Abiraterone available to patients in Northern Ireland. The drug, which has been available in England and Wales, has the ability to prolong the lives of men with terminal prostate cancer. Judith had previously written to the Health Minister on this issue.

Judith Cochrane MLA said: “I welcome this decision to make this drug available in Northern Ireland.

“I have previously written to the Health Minister on this issue and I know that Prostate Cancer UK have also lobbied him, so I am glad that the Health Department has seen sense and given the go ahead for this drug to be given to patients here.

“There are several other medicines that are also not available here that could save lives or prolong the lives of terminal patients, so I hope to see them being made available here as well.”
