The majority of those that will be affected will be agency staff. Bombardier have said that they will do all that is possible to avoid making compulsory redundancies within their permanent workforce.
Judith Cochrane MLA said: “My first thoughts are with the staff members who will be losing their jobs. This will undoubtedly be a difficult and stressful time for them and their families.
“The loss of so many jobs will have an impact on the local economy and a knock on effect for secondary companies.
“Bombardier remain one of our most prominent employers and play a vital role in the Northern Ireland economy. They have given their commitment to their Northern Ireland operations and I will be seeking a meeting with their local management to see what politicians and the Assembly can do to provide further support to them.
“I have already spoken with the Employment and Learning Minister to see what support and guidance his Department can provide to those members of staff who will lose their jobs.”
