Down District Council has announced the RAF display team will be taking part in the Festival of Flight on Saturday, August 10 – the third time the Red Arrows have taken part in the event.
Tens of thousands of people watched the stunning aerobatics of the Red Arrows when they performed in 2010 and 2011 and the council is expecting a similar turn out this summer. Also returning again will be the Eurofighter and the Typhoon, which was so popular at last year’s event.
Councillor Patrick Clarke stated: “It is great news to see that Down District Council has been able to secure the Red Arrows to fly across the skies above Newcastle as part of the Summer Festival of Flight festival in August.
“The crowds which the Red Arrows attracted to Newcastle two years ago were phenomenal and the spectacular air displays were breathtaking and could be seen for miles along the coast.
“With the Red Arrows display, the Summer Festival of Flight will be another major success for Newcastle and Down District. It is becoming one of Northern Ireland’s major summer festivals.
“No doubt the booking of the Red Arrows, as well as the other jet displays will make the Festival of Flight even more exciting and will be a major tourism attraction for visitors and tourists when they visit the seaside town of Newcastle this coming August.”
