Alliance Newcastle Councillor Patrick Clarke has paid warm tribute to the former Chairperson of Down District Council Mr. Peter Craig who passed away on New Year’s Day.
Councillor Patrick Clarke stated:”I was very deeply saddened to learn of the passing of one of Down District’s respected elected public representatives the late Councillor Peter Craig.
“Councillor Peter Craig was a man of the people and was devoted to his family, St. Patrick’s GAC, Saul, parish, community, and his constituents.
“He was certainly one of life’s gentlemen who always had a word for everyone.
“Peter served the entire community and that was clearly evident by the massive turnout at his funeral in Saul.
“I will always remember following when I got elected to Down District Council in May 2011 Peter coming over and shaking my hand and offering me his help and support as a new Councillor.
“That says a lot about Peter irrespective of our political differences Peter extended to me great courtesy and support in the Council Chamber.
“I would like to extend my heartfelt deepest sympathy to his wife Angela, and the family circle at this most difficult time on the passing of Peter.”
