Church attack condemned, pipe bombs ‘token gesture’

Lagan Valley MLA Seamus Close has condemned the arson attack on St Colman’s in Dunmurray.

Mr Close said: “This attack on a house of God calls into question the intent of loyalist thugs and gangsters. On one hand they cynically leave pipe bombs for the security forces to deal with, while on the other their fellow hoods are trying to burn down a place of worship.”

“Is this the terrorist version of good cop, bad cop?”

“The token gesture of leaving a few pipe bombs to be destroyed has no more merit than the LVF’s equally pathetic move a few years ago. I doubt anyone believes that this set piece by the UDA indicates a change of heart on the part of loyalist paramilitaries, and the sickening attack on St Colman’s would seem to back this.”
