Campbell: Targeting police vehicles must stop

Alliance Councillor Tom Campbell has expressed his shock after six police officers were injured after collisions with a suspected stolen car.

Police were investigating a burglary in the Jordanstown area when two of their vehicles were rammed by a car on Wednesday morning.

Councillor Tom Campbell said: “The reckless behaviour of those behind this attack on police officers carrying out their normal duties must be condemned.

“Unfortunately this isn’t the first time something like this has occurred in the area and there have been on-going incidents of police vehicles damaged when rammed by other vehicles.

“Residents in the area are anxious for this kind of behaviour to stop and are aware of the good work police officers have undertaken in the area to date.”

Stewart Dickson MLA added: “This was an extremely worrying incident and one that must not happen again. The thugs behind this attack on officers doing their job will not be tolerated and I would appeal for anyone with information to contact the PSNI as soon as possible.”
