Campbell praises work that secured a quiet Twelfth period with less flags on display

Alliance Spokesperson Cllr Tom Campbell has praised the dialogue conducted on the ground locally which ensured a relatively quiet Twelfth of July period and ensured that far less flags were on display. He also praised the work of local police in helping ensure that the period passed relatively peacefully.

The Newtownabbey Councillor said: “People are very pleased that there have been less paramilitary flags on display locally. I am also glad that there has been a reduction in the number of kerbstones being painting this summer. I strongly welcome the progress made in stopping these types of sectarian phenomena.

“Dialogue has been taking place behind the scenes and it’s good to see that people are working in the community to keep problems at a minimum.

“Quiet diplomacy and sensible work has been conducted on the ground to ensure that the Twelfth period has been a relatively quiet one.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to praise local police on their efforts to ensure that this period passes without event.”
