Campbell condemns Ballyclare pipe bomb

Alliance Newtownabbey Councillor Tom Campbell has condemned those who left a pipe bomb in a housing development on Rashee Road in Ballyclare on Friday morning. The device did not explode but has been described as viable by the police.

Cllr Tom Campbell said: “Over the previous number of days we have seen the disruption by a number of security alerts in North Belfast and in County Antrim. I am concerned that these small groups appear to be increasing their activities.

“I can not understand what must go through the minds of those who leave these devices in residential areas where there are young children.

“These people represent only a tiny minority and have no support in the local community. I would urge them to cease their activities and sign up to the peace process like everybody else has.

“I would urge anybody with any information about this pipe bomb to contact police. The people behind this device obviously have no respect for the lives of others.”
