Bradshaw disgusted by ongoing requirement for women to travel to England for vital healthcare

Paula Bradshaw MLA has expressed her disgust at figures showing almost 400 women travelled to England and Wales for abortions last year.

The South Belfast MLA stated: “While it is welcome that this figure has reduced, we are still seeing 371 women – more than one a day – having to travel across the water to access health services which are legal and which should be provided in Northern Ireland.

“To force women to do this at a time of extreme vulnerability is a disgusting failure on behalf of the Department and all those blocking progress towards a Framework as required under the Regulations passed over a year ago now.

“It should not require intervention from the Secretary of State for women to gain access to healthcare in line with the law right here in Northern Ireland.”
