Bradshaw criticises appearance of paramilitary symbols at new housing development

Alliance South Belfast Councillor Paula Bradshaw has criticised the appearance of paramilitary flags and emblems at a new social housing development in Carryduff. UVF flags have been put up around the development which is not yet complete. The Irish News has reported that OakleeTrinity, the Housing Association responsible for the development, has pledged to investigate who put up the flags and symbols.

Cllr Paula Bradshaw: “I am very concerned by the attempts to demarcate territory at this new social housing development. The use of paramilitary flags and symbols is completely unacceptable and just an attempt to intimidate local people.

“We must ensure that this housing development is open to all. I want to see all housing being treated as mixed and would urge all sides to stand together to ensure people from all backgrounds are able to live in this development.

“I am pleased that OakleeTrinity are taking this matter seriously and hope to see the removal of these paramilitary symbols.”
