Alliance Councillor Yvonne Boyle, the Deputy Mayor of Coleraine, has said a major roads dualling project has the potential to significantly boost the local economy.
The Alliance Party’s East Londonderry candidate was speaking as she met with TransportNI representatives and Minister Danny Kennedy as he cut the first sod, signalling the start of work on the A26 dualling: Glarryford to A44 project.
Councillor Yvonne Boyle said: “This delayed development project has now great potential for the local area. This project is long overdue and I’m delighted work will officially be getting underway. It will provide 8 kilometres of dual carriage way from Glarryford to the A44 Drones Road Junction. It will also improve much needed road safety on this busy route.
“The local infrastructure is in need of this scheme, and once completed it will give greater access for both local people and tourists wanting to come into the Causeway area, and beyond, to explore.
“East Londonderry has so much to offer, it is essential we do all we can to attract people to enjoy our magnificent scenery, shoreline and special events. This will also have the add on effect of boosting our local economy.
“I hope to see the project completed on schedule so we can all enjoy the benefits.”
