The man was working in a shed in the Islandboy Road area when he was shot by a masked man.
Councillor Yvonne Boyle said: “I wholeheartedly condemn this attack which has left the whole community in shock.
“It is completely unacceptable to bring guns onto our streets and this type of behaviour will not be tolerated. My thoughts are with the injured man and I hope he makes a full recovery.
“I would urge anyone with information to contact the PSNI as soon as possible, ensuring whoever is responsible is removed from the streets immediately.”
