Cllr John Blair said: “There is absolutely no place in our society for this type of violence. The lives of police officers and residents in the area were put at risk.
“The Police are there to protect the whole community and they have my full support. I am deeply concerned that there are those who would seek to target police officers. There can be no justification for this attack.
“The majority of the public are opposed to the actions of those behind this shooting. People do not want to return to the dark days of the Troubles.
“I would urge anybody with any information about this shooting to contact the police.”
