Police have revealed the 95-year old disabled man had a knife held to his throat during a robbery at his home in the early hours of Monday morning.
Councillor John Blair said: “This is absolutely devastating for this man, his family and friends and I must condemn the thugs who orchestrated it.
“Everyone has the right to feel safe and secure in their own home. This callous and brutal attack should never have happened.
“My thoughts are with the victim as he continues to recover and I would urge anyone with information to contact the PSNI as soon as possible to ensure those responsible are removed from the streets immediately.”
