Cllr John Blair said: “I would call for calm and urge people not to take part in violence. We have already seen a number of people brought before the courts. I hope this swift action will deter others from taking part in trouble.
“Violence has consequences – for those caught by the police, for police officers who have been injured, for community relations and for the image of Northern Ireland which has been harmed by these riots.
“Police officers have again put themselves at risk to maintain law and order. My thoughts are with those officers who have been injured in recent days, I hope they will all be able to make speedy recoveries.
“If anybody has any information about those responsible for this violence then I would urge them to contact the police.”
