Alliance Party Councillor Stewart Dickson said: “In recent days we have seen pictures in the media of parents looking on as their children walk on frozen lakes. It is beyond belief that parents can stand by and let their children walk onto treacherous frozen waters. Parents have a responsibility to look after children and to allow them to do something like this is staggering.
“I would like to see the authorities, particularly social services, take action against those who have allowed their children to take part in this desperately dangerous activity.
“I would urge everyone to stop risking their own lives and to protect the lives of their children by ending this stupid and deeply hazardous phenomenon.”
