Armstrong welcomes investment in roads across Ards

Alliance Councillor Kellie Armstrong has welcomed a £400,000 infrastructure investment set to improve roads in and around Newtownards and the Ards Peninsula.

The local Councillor was speaking after the announcement paved the way for the start of two major road projects, aiming to improve road safety for all road users travelling from the Peninsula to Newtownards and the Old Shore Road areas.

Councillor Kellie Armstrong said: “I can confirm £350,000 worth of investment has already started with the resurfacing of the A20 Portaferry Road between Finlays and Cunningburn Road. While road users will experience some delays, the improvements, due to be completed by end March 2015, will be worth it.

“Too many people have been injured and killed along this stretch of road and the resurfacing will help improve road safety for all.

“A further £65,000 of resurfacing along Old Shore Road will start on February 2, and complete by the end of the month.

“Drivers should expect some delays and occasional road closures, for example the Portaferry Road will be closed this Saturday. This has been clearly sign posted and I have been assured there should be access down the Peninsula for the emergency services.”
