Armstrong welcomes increase to student intake and admission at Strangford Integrated College

Alliance Strangford candidate and integrated education advocate Kellie Armstrong has welcomed the Department of Education approval to increase student admission and enrolment numbers at Strangford Integrated College.

Welcoming the Minister’s comments that the proposal was in line with his duty to encourage and facilitate the development of Integrated Education.

Councillor Kellie Armstrong said: “I am delighted that the Department of Education has at last approved an increase to the number of students attending Strangford Integrated College.

“More and more parents wish for their children to be educated together and not segregated. An amazing 1800 parents and children attended Strangford Integrated College’s last open days – A clear indication that the number of people wishing to send children to an integrated school is growing at an increasing rate.

“The school’s admission number will increase from 80 to 110 from September 2016. There will be an annual phased increase in the College’s enrolment number up to 670, starting from September 2016 or as soon as possible thereafter.

“I would like to pass on my thanks and congratulations to Mr Weir, his staff team, the Board of Governors and Parents Committee for their determination in achieving this much welcomed move forward for Integrated education in the Ards Peninsula.”
