The proposed new Planning (Environmental Impact Assessment) Regulations would introduce changes which would see environmental statements prepared by competent experts, planning authorities having to prove their objectivity and penalties imposed for breaches, among other transformations.
Ms Armstrong said it was important everyone had their say.
“Constituents regularly come to me with issues regarding planning and most of those issues are connected to environmental concerns. Among those concerns is the new directive clarifies only developments with significant environmental effects should be subject to assessment, without stating the definition of what a significant development is.
“It is vital all with an interest in protecting our environment review this consultation and submit views. We are the protectors of our environment and it is vital we, the community, ensure the regulations and rules laid down to protect our environment are robust and updated.”
