Alliance Councillor David Armitage has said a pipe bomb attack in the short strand could have caused serious damage.
The local Councillor was speaking after the pipe bomb was thrown into the back garden in the Strand Walk area of the Short Strand late on Monday evening, leading to a number of homes being evacuated.
A second on-going security alert on Tuesday afternoon added to the distress for local residents.
Councillor David Armitage said: “This was a reckless act by those involved and could easily have caused serious injury or even death.
“There is no place in our society for those who wish to use violence and there can be no justification for trying to bring fear back into the community.
“Alliance will continue to work for everyone in the community and I would encourage anyone with information on this incident to contact police immediately, removing the threat from our streets.”
