Armitage ‘appalled’ by East Belfast burglary

Alliance East Belfast Councillor David Armitage has said he is appalled at two men who held a woman hostage in her home while they burgled the property.

Councillor Armitage was speaking after police appealed for information in relation to the incident, which occurred in the Larkfield Road area of Sydenham yesterday (Thursday) around 10.30pm. The two men entered the elderly woman’s home and held her, while they searched it for valuables. The woman was not hurt but left in a state of distress.

“This was a shocking crime carried out against a defenceless pensioner in her own home,” said Councillor Armitage.

“I can only imagine the distress this poor woman went through while these callous thugs carried out this despicable act. I hope she is able to recover quickly from what must have been a horrifying experience.

“I would urge anybody with information about this burglary to contact police immediately, as the people responsible must be brought to justice.”
