Alliance’s Campbell to chair Newtownabbey District Policing Partnership

Alliance Councillor Tom Campbell is taking over as Chairman of Newtownabbey DPP on 3 December from his council colleague, Councillor Janet Crilly who has completed her term of office.

Cllr Campbell said: “I hope to see continuing meaningful co-operation between police and the whole community. It is important that local police respond to the needs of the community and this is something that I with members of the DPP will continue to pursue. There are for example, significant challenges for the police and indeed the whole community to eradicate the unacceptable level of anti-social behaviour in the Borough. I would also like see more police on the ground to tackle this scourge so that people can walk the streets in safety.”

A lawyer by profession, Councillor Campbell added: “I have worked hard with the police during difficult times down the years and I am looking forward to working closely with them again in my role as DPP Chairman”. He paid tribute to the commitment and energy of Councillor Crilly, who he said, “Worked tirelessly for the good of all the community.”

Tom Campbell is 49 years of age, married with one child. He was a Belfast City Councillor for 12 years, a Harbour Commissioner from 1998-2001 and was appointed High Sheriff of Belfast in 2000. He was elected to Newtownabbey Borough Council in 2005 to represent the Antrim Line area and has been a member of Newtownabbey DPP for 2 years.”
