Alliance welcomes Mivan sale

Alliance Leader David Ford and Antrim Councillor Neil Kelly have expressed relief after news emerged the assets of Mivan had been sold to the MJM Group, with the creation of 40-50 jobs.

Mivan went into administration earlier this year with the loss of around 250 jobs. MJM is a Newry based group and is expected to continue trading under the Mivan name.

David Ford MLA said: “This is positive news for the area, following the devastating loss when Mivan closed its doors earlier this year. While the creation of 50 jobs may seem small at present, the buyers obviously see potential in the site and the Mivan name which will hopefully lead to the creation of further job opportunities.”

Councillor Neil Kelly added: “I am delighted to hear that Newry based company MJM has bought over Mivan’s assets and will retain a number of jobs at the Antrim site. The company will retain the Mivan name and will hopefully look to develop the workforce back to the skilled and specialist group that it once was.

“This is good news for the town and while the total numbers of jobs lost have not been replaced I would hope that the numbers would increase over time, bringing good news for those who have recently been made redundant.”
