Alliance welcomes meeting with Tesco over Rosetta plans

Alliance Councillors Michael Long and Carole Howard have welcomed the opportunity for traders and Councillors to meet with Tesco this month, ahead of plans for a proposed Tesco at the site of the old Rosetta Bar getting the green light.

Concerns have been raised at the plans by the well-known retail chain to turn the bar, located on Rosetta Road, into a Tesco Express.

Councillor Michael Long said: “Alliance has been campaigning to raise awareness of Tesco’s plans for a number of months now and has been trying to secure a meeting with all concerned parties. I welcome that finally we will have the opportunity this month to have a face to face meeting with developers.

“Having discussed the proposal with various traders and residents it became clear little was known about the plans, which is extremely worrying considering the potential impact it could have on the area.”

Councillor Carole Howard said: “There are a number of immediate concerns that must be addressed – including current access issues, the job security of those employed in the area, final development plans and the proposed opening date.

“The local community is united in its opposition to this proposal and I would encourage anyone with concerns to write directly to the Planning Service.”
