Gilnahirk Alliance Councillor Judith Cochrane has welcomed the Public Consultation on a proposal for reinstatement of the Gilnahirk Public Right of Way between Gilnahirk Road and Gilnahirk Avenue and hopes that it will result in the diverted path being re-opened as soon as possible. The consultation began on January 5th 2009 and is due to close on February 2nd 2009.
Having opposed the original removal of the right of way, Councillor Judith Cochrane welcomed the proposal, saying;: “I am pleased that this consultation is now under way and I hope that after local people have had a chance to look at the proposed route, the path can be reinstated as soon as possible.’
“Local people have endured the loss of this path for long enough and its reinstatement will provide vital access for residents, especially older people and children, to important local amenities such as library, primary school, shopping and transport facilities.”
Copies of the proposed route and map are available for inspection at Castlereagh Borough Council Offices, Gilnahirk Library and Gilnahirk Primary School. Responses to the proposal should be sent in writing to Castlereagh Borough Council on or before February 2nd 2009.
