Alliance welcomes construction phase of Bangor’s new Performing Arts and Innovation Centre

North Down Alliance Councillors have welcomed the official start of construction on Bangor’s new £12 million Performing Arts and Technology Innovation Centre (PATIC).

Alliance DEL Minister Stephen Farry MLA got the project underway on Tuesday, March 4, cutting the first sod at the site which will provide impressive new accommodation for the schools of Manufacturing and Electrical Engineering, computer and software engineering.

The space will also house a 350 seat theatre – including first class rehearsal, recording and performance facilities – as part of a performing and creative arts centre.

Councillor Andrew Muir, Mayor of North Down, said: “It is fantastic to see this innovative project get underway. Once completed it will bring valuable new educational opportunities to Bangor and Northern Ireland

“In officially kick-starting this project, my Party colleague Dr Stephen Farry has again proven Alliance is prepared to step forward to promote the arts. This new facility will help Northern Ireland retain and attract new talents.”

Councillor Michael Bower added: “North Down is gaining a vital new facility to improve our skill-base in high growth areas of the Northern Ireland economy which will offer the employment opportunities of the future. The inclusion of a new theatre as part of this project also has the potential to be a facility to be enjoyed by the entire community.”
