Alliance to host Hospice Coffee Morning at Stormont

Belfast woman, Una Crudden has created a stir and inspired members of the Alliance Party to host a Coffee Morning at Stormont in a bid to raise vital funds for Northern Ireland Hospice. On Thursday 19th September, MLAs will take part in what is expected to be Ireland’s biggest ever coffee morning, with money raised helping to provide care to local adults with terminal illnesses.

Alliance East Belfast MLA Chris Lyttle, who will be hosting the event, said: “It was the dedication that Una has shown in campaigning for Northern Ireland Hospice that has inspired the coffee morning event in Stormont. I hope to see politicians from all parties uniting together for an extremely worthy cause. There has been a tremendous amount of money raised in previous years and I am sure that NI Hospice will reach their target with the support of the public. I would encourage everybody to get involved and help raise funds to care for those with terminal illnesses.”

As Guest of Honour, Una Crudden is delighted that the Coffee Morning at Stormont is raising funds for Northern Ireland Hospice saying, “It is great to see that our MLAs are supporting the work of Northern Ireland Hospice and hopefully this will encourage other people to hold similar events for such a worthwhile charity. I am looking forward to mingling with all the MLAs for the coffee morning this week.”

Every cup of coffee poured at a Hospice Coffee Morning will mean two pounds has been raised for the local charity, and every pound will make a big difference. Lynn Boyce, Northern Irealnd Hospice Events Fundraiser says, “I’m delighted that a Hospice Coffee Morning is being thrown at Stormont in honour of Una Crudden, who has been an inspirational fundraiser for Hospice, despite facing her own battles. This year, we are hoping that more people than ever will stick the kettle on and host a coffee morning for Hospice. Whether it’s at home, at work, or in the local community centre, this is a great fundraising event that everyone will enjoy. It’s really simple to host a Hospice Coffee party, and we are here to give an extra helping hand by providing everything that’s needed, including a complimentary supply of Bewley’s coffee.”

The target for the 2013 Coffee Morning is £75,000 which is needed to ensure that Hospice continues to provide its vital services to local people and their families. Every £30 raised will provide an hour of specialist Hospice Nursing care to a patient in their own home.
