Alliance supports border battle against poverty

Speaking after the launch of the ‘Mind the Gap’ project by the Northern Ireland Anti Poverty Network and Community Workers Co-operative today in Derry city, Alliance’s Westminster candidate for East Londonderry and senior social worker, Yvonne Boyle, stated:

“I welcome this partnership approach to addressing poverty in border areas, and it is important that this issue remains high on the political agenda. 25 percent of Northern Ireland’s population lives on less that £97 per week, and in parts of Belfast and Derry 90 percent of children are living in poverty.

“Mind the Gap will support people in poverty on both sides of the border and enable groups helping those affected by poverty to pool their resources, knowledge and experiences together to take positive action.”
