Alliance East Antrim representatives have sought a meeting with the new owners of Kilroot and Ballylumford power stations, after it was announced a Czech company will purchase the plants.
The deal by EPH is expected to complete at the end of May, with no job losses. It follows ‘restructuring’ announced at the locations by current owners AES last year.
“First and foremost, I have spoken to AES and been assured there will be no job losses at the plants in relation to this takeover,” said Alliance MLA Stewart Dickson.
“In the wake of this news, we have sought a meeting with EPH to help ensure there is a smooth crossover and to discuss their plans for the sites. It is vital workers are kept completely informed about what precisely is happening there.”
“We will also seek meetings with trade unions in relation to this news,” added Alliance Carrick Castle representative Lauren Gray.
“There is a skilled workforce employed across both plants, with Ballylumford and Kilroot playing a major role in the local economy. It is essential we do all we can to assist workers there.”
