One of Northern Ireland’s best known construction companies, the Antrim-based firm currently employs 289 people.
South Antrim MLA David Ford said: “This news is a major blow to the local community. Mivan is a major employer in the area and this loss has the potential to devastate many lives.
“Antrim is a close-knit area and those affected will be able to rely on the relevant support from across the whole community. The Alliance Party will be seeking a meeting with administrators in coming days to fully discuss the situation.”
Councillor Neil Kelly said: “While the Northern Ireland economy continues to slowly recover, the past few years of hardship have left their mark. Mivan has always been a strong, successful company but a turbulent few years have led to this devastating announcement today.”
Councillor Alan Lawther added: “It is disappointing that this news has come so early in the New Year. Alliance will continue to monitor the situation and I hope the administrators are able to rescue Mivan in the hope that job losses will be limited.”
