Councillor Tim Morrow and local representative Stephen Donnan – who attended the first class last week – added the programme venue proved the importance of Dundonald High to the community, after the school was recently saved from closure by the Education Department.
Councillor Tim Morrow said: “This is a welcome development of a cross community initiative in East Belfast.
“Whilst we are pleased with the retention of Dundonald High as an educational facility it is imperative that community initiatives are encouraged to use the premises to deliver unique programmes that promote a shared society through shared spaces.”
Castlereagh East Alliance representative Stephen Donnan added: “Having lived in Dundonald for most of my life it is fantastic to see such an interesting and diverse initiative being offered to local residents. I look forward to continuing the classes and would encourage others across the community to come along and get involved.”
