Strangford MLA Kieran McCarthy said: “This is sad news that another young life has been lost on our roads. I would like to pass on my condolences to the family of this man.
“There must be better driving education and enforcement of the rules of the road, which may come to late for the family of this young man, but could reduce the number of road deaths.
“And this death comes at a time when we are unsure of the future of road safety councils.
Coleraine Cllr Barney Fitzpatrick said: “I would like to extend my sympathies to the family of this young man. It is worrying that the number of lives lost on our roads appears to be increasing.
“The relevant agencies and Government Departments must work together to improve road safety.
“It is sad that this death comes on the night when a new road safety campaign is launched with hard hitting television advertising, which just shows that more must be done.”
