Castlereagh Alliance Councillor Michael Long has expressed opposition to the closure of Dundonald Adult Training Centre and the moving of classes to Montgomery Road. Councillor Long was speaking before meeting Castlreagh College representatives at Council Offices on Tuesday 26 March.
Councillor Long said:
“Many local people are angry at this proposed switching of courses away from Dundonald. It is unacceptable that people in Dundonald have to travel out of the village for these services. The fact that there is no direct public transport route to Montgomery Road will mean that those from low income backgrounds will be particularly disadvantaged.”
“Another major concern is that there is no room in Montgomery Road to house these extra courses and I am therefore concerned that some courses may be axed altogether. I will be seeking assurances that this will not be the case.”
“Alliance is utterly opposed to this move and local MLA Kieran McCarthy has tabled a question to the Minister for Employment and Learning to ask what is to happen to the site.”
