Alliance fears about new planning policy

Alliance Party Sustainability Spokesperson Alan Lawther has expressed concerns about the newly published Planning Policy Statement 21 on development in the countryside saying it will make it easier for people to build in rural areas which should be protected.

Antrim Councillor Alan Lawther said: “This new policy softens up the restrictions and will allow more people to build in rural areas. This may pose problems in terms of conservation and I am concerned at the liberalisation of this matter.

“While we need to listen to the concerns of people living in rural areas, we need to do what’s best to protect the environment, and I am worried at this announcement.”
