Alliance Party Justice Spokesperson, Stephen Farry, has condemned last nights riots in North Belfast.
Dr Farry stated:
“The scenes of rioting in North Belfast are an outright disgrace. There is an absolutely no excuse that justify violence on either side.”
“It is intolerable that the police and army are required, night after night, to place themselves in the middle, and to sustain heavy casualties, and that the quality of policing elsewhere in Northern Ireland suffers from the diversion of resources.”
“Alliance calls on both sides to show restraint, and for dialogue to recommence over the key issues of dispute.”
“But one fact should be clearly acknowledged – the absolute right of children to attend school unimpeded. It is encouraging that the Holy Cross children have been able to reach school this morning, and I hope that Model pupils will be able to return from school today and on other days in safety.”
