Alliance backs Community Relations Week saying division must be tackled

East Belfast Alliance MLAs Chris Lyttle and Judith Cochrane have taken part in an event at Stormont today to mark the launch of Community Relations Week and said it is very important that segregation in our society is tackled to deliver a shared future.

Chris Lyttle MLA said: “I am very pleased to be able to support Community Relations Week. It is vitally important that division in our society is tackled. It is essential that progress is made free up the £1billion that is wasted every year on maintaining segregation in Northern Ireland.

Judith Cochrane MLA said: “Society is changing for the better but we need to ensure that community relations continues to improve and that is why it is vital that there’s more shared and integrated education, mixed housing and shared services. There are massive opportunities open to government to deliver a shared future and it is vital that these opportunities are taken. Alliance will continue to work for change to remove segregation in our society.”
