The Alliance Party has criticised Post Office plans that could potentially see Antrim Town lose its town centre branch.
The comments come as the Post Office revealed it was making plans to close the branch in Castle Mall, after consistently failing to secure a franchise.
David Ford MLA said: “Located in the heart of Antrim Town, this local Post Office is an essential community hub that provides much needed community services.
“If the planned closure goes ahead, the move will have a direct impact on the elderly and people with limited mobility who could end up feeling increased social isolation.”
Councillor Neil Kelly added: “Alliance will be working hard to ensure the doors don’t close for good on this local Post Office. Not only will we be active in the consultation period, but we’ll be putting forward a strong case for keeping the branch open, as well as sourcing another town centre franchisee.”
