Kieran McCarthy MLA said: “Simple hygiene practices must be followed and closer monitoring of hygiene is obviously necessary. High cleanliness standards are essential to maintain public confidence in our health service. We need action plans that have been put in place at hospitals to be implemented and evaluated regularly.
“Some of the findings of this report are shocking; however, it’s worth noting that a number of hospitals achieved high standards.
“I want to praise the RQIA in their work to improve hygiene standards and I am glad that they will be continuing their programme of inspections.”
