Alliance Infrastructure spokesperson Andrew Muir MLA has urged the Infrastructure Minister to ensure a review into residents’ parking schemes reports promptly.
Minister Nichola Mallon recently replied to an Assembly Question posed by North Down MLA Mr Muir detailing a review is currently being undertaken after the introduction of the first such scheme in South Belfast. The Minister stated the review will ‘reflect the needs, experiences and feedback of residents’.
“With the problem of residential parking already well known in many towns and cities across Northern Ireland, it is essential evaluation of this initial scheme is completed without delay,” said Mr Muir.
“Local people unable to get parked anywhere near to their home should not have to wait any longer to hear about proposed plans for future roll-out to other areas.
“Whilst there can never be a perfect residents’ parking scheme which meets the needs of everyone, the current situation being endured by residents in many areas across Northern Ireland is entirely unsatisfactory. It needs to be addressed via balanced proposals, which must not place any undue financial burden on people wishing to obtain a permit and the ability to park near their home.”
