Alliance East Antrim MLA Stewart Dickson has expressed disappointment after a major local firm announced it was to close its doors.
Sensata Technologies in Carrickfergus will shut its factory, with the loss of 270 jobs. The company, which makes tyre pressure sensors, blamed a downturn in the European car market for the closure, which will complete by early 2021.
“I am deeply disappointed by this news and my thoughts are with the workers and their loved ones,” said Mr Dickson.
“It is, however, a relief Sensata’s factory in Antrim will remain open, albeit with a small amount of jobs losses there. This news has been hanging over the employees for some time and we need to ensure all appropriate support services are put in place so they can find alternative employment.
“The workforce in Sensata is extremely skilled and I hope other businesses in the wider East Antrim area will pick up on these skills and talents.”
