Alliance Westminster candidate Donnamarie Higgins has condemned whoever threw a suspected grenade at police in West Belfast.

Ms Higgins said: “Whoever threw this grenade at a police patrol on the Falls Road must be condemned in the strongest possible terms. They have shown no regard for the safety of local people and put at risk the lives of people asleep in their homes. It is fortunate no police officers or residents were injured. There is no support for a return to violence and those responsible for this attack need to recognise that and accept the need to move on.

“The police have an important job to do protecting the community of West Belfast and I would urge anyone with information about this incident to pass it to the police on the 101 number or anonymously to the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.”
