The Party’s Infrastructure spokesperson was speaking as it was announced schools would be closed for a second day, as Northern Ireland began to feel the full effects of the storm.
Kellie Armstrong said: “The authorities give advice for a reason – this storm will be extremely dangerous and I cannot stress enough the importance of staying indoors and taking all precautions to keep yourself safe.
“If you must go outside, or are still to travel home from work, take you time. The roads will be treacherous and there will be serious delays due to a number of already fallen trees. With the potential to cause serious damage to property and injury to anyone caught up in it, do ask yourself if your journey is necessary before embarking.
“Last night and early this morning saw a period of confusion for many, and as a parent myself I’m grateful to see the Department of Education act with authority and move to put plans in place ahead of tomorrow.
“Much of today was spent playing catch up, when decisions could have been taken slightly earlier last night and along with my Alliance colleagues I’ll continue to keep people as up to date as I can as the situation unfolds.”
