Sinclair’s Men’s Shed proposal supported by Council

The Men’s Shed movement is coming to Mid and East Antrim, thanks to Alliance Councillor Paul Sinclair who proposed a motion at a recent Council meeting.

Cllr Sinclair said: “I am absolutely delighted that Mid and East Antrim Borough Council has adopted the motion proposed by myself and seconded by UUP Cllr D A Wilson to recognise and support Men’s Sheds.

“Men’s shed activities give men of all ages a chance to get together, work together and learn together, which is good for health and wellbeing. This is a truly grass roots project and Men’s sheds are certainly not dictated to by the local council or any other governmental body or agency. It a movement which is very much run for the local people and run by the local people.

“Men’s sheds contribute greatly to the health and wellbeing of the local community and this motion will give the movement a boost in Mid And East Antrim borough.”

Council Motion, September 5 2016.

“Mid and East Antrim Borough Council recognise the importance of the emerging Men’s Shed culture in Northern Ireland and beyond. This Council acknowledges that Men’s Sheds contribute to community wellbeing and the wider economy.

“As part of a wider strategy to serve all of the Borough residents, this Council will advise and guide local groups’ efforts to set up and run Men’s Sheds in Mid and East Antrim Borough.”
