Farry disappointed and concerned over continued Executive split on Brexit

Alliance Economy spokesperson Stephen Farry has said he is “disappointed and concerned” the Executive parties again met the Brexit Secretary separately to discuss issues relating to the EU referendum result.

He was speaking after David Davis met with First Minister Arlene Foster and Finance Minister Mairtin O Muilleoir separately to discuss a number of issues relating to Brexit. It follows Prime Minister Theresa May’s separate meetings with Ms Foster and deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness in July.

“The Executive has been split on the issue of Brexit since the referendum campaign began. It is farcical they continue to be unable to provide a common, coherent and robust view to the UK Government around Brexit. Northern Ireland’s interests continue to suffer as a result,” said Dr Farry.

“Alliance was not convinced last month’s joint letter from the First Minister and deputy First Minister to the Prime Minister was anything other than the lowest common denominator of agreement, with many issues missed or underplayed.

“Not least when there is so much uncertainty in our economy, it is not too much to ask for the Executive to articulate a shared message. Division does not serve our interests.”
