Alliance Council group leader Mr Long was speaking after 13 Jewish graves were damaged in Belfast City Cemetery yesterday (Friday) by a large crowd of youths wielding hammers and blocks. Police are treating the incident as a hate crime.
“This is not just an attack on the Jewish population of Belfast but on us all,” said Councillor Long.
“It is deeply saddening these graves have been attacked and my thoughts are with the loved ones of those buried in them. There is no excuse for this mindless hooliganism, which has no place whatsoever in our society.
“I would urge anyone with information on this incident to contact police immediately.”
